The Greater Fürst Family and Their Sense of Social Responsibility

We live our values like responsibility, trust, cooperation and tolerance, and have especially taken pleasure in performing as long as there has been a Fürst joinery. Since 2014 we have been certified in accordance with ISO 26000, a guideline for socially responsible action.
At Fürst every employee is considered to be a “member of the family” in whom trust is placed, and everybody can develop and grow according to his or her strengths. We are no homogeneous mishmash, but rather a colourful group thrown together by chance, in which it can even get loud from time to time – like a real family.

Together
Whenever our “family members” produce offspring, we support them periods of leave for maternity and paternity. We adjust working hours to address the needs of the individual employees. As a result, we are able to build upon the cohesion of our “family” in stress-filled times. As a “family” we go hiking together, play football and hold celebrations.

Continuing Education and Health
Life-long learning is important to our family – both professionally and personally. This is promoted by us through opportunities for in-house and external continuing education (e.g.: digitalization of design + production, Office training sessions, procurement law, etc.). In order to remain fit as long as possible, we place great store on the health of our individual family members. We do this using presentations on healthy nutrition, as well as with water dispensers and baskets of fruit.

Apprenticeship Training
The youngest members of our family are specifically encouraged. For 140 years we have been training apprentices and promoting careers. The passing along of knowledge from generation to generation is the key to success. Support in mathematics, mechanical engineering in practical application and annual excursions to suppliers & carpentry colleagues help our apprentices to see the whole big picture.

One of the sustainability strategies we have elaborated consists of targets in the fields of ecology (sharpening awareness in the course of the use of resources, breathing new life into used materials), economy (creating added value, ensuring job-site survival) and society (intensification of social and cultural commitment). Responsibility will remain – as it was in the past, so too in the future - an integral component of our business practices. Only in concert are we successful in a sustainable way. Our sustainability report can be found here to download. (PDF)

The Greater Fürst Family and Culture

Culture enjoys a highly valued status both for us and in our business. When Alexander Hauer, artistic director of the Sommerspiele Melk theatre festival suggested to us turning the former production buildings in Melk into a cultural institution, we immediately facilitated the implementation of his idea.

In 2009, the “Tischlerei Melk Cultural Workshop” was launched in combination with a then already multifaceted program – ranging from cabaret to public readings to concerts.

Alexander Hauer carried out the project - together with Matthias Dallinger - so successfully that the “Tischlerei Melk” cannot fail to come mind when considering today's artistic and cultural scene in Lower Austria, and is well known far beyond the province's borders.

In our capacity as sponsor we provide the interior spaces and non-cash benefits needed. For decades, we have also been sponsoring the Sommerspiele Melk, the International Baroque Festival at Melk Abbey and temporary artistic projects in the public sphere.

For the Fürst Family, culture is a major focus.
